London Marathon - Special People
- The ‘Running Pink’ breast cancer
survivors from Australia who ran the London Marathon.
- Garry, the London cabbie who reduced
my fare by ten pounds and asked that I donate it to the Leukaemia Foundation
which I have done.
- The blind runner and his running
guide.
- All the runners with dedications to
loved ones printed on the back of their t-shirts.
- Nadia and Clem from Inspired
Adventures – thank you for helping us all!
- Hearing the crowds chant Aussie,
Aussie, Aussie – oi, oi, oi’ – just phenomenal.
- All the people who were running and
walking in the rain at the end.
- The young woman – single leg amputee –
looking down at her own leg that had a deep cut that was bleeding. Her running mate was carrying her ‘spare
legs’ in his back pack.
- The guy who ran the Brighton marathon
– climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and then ran the London Marathon all in the space of a
week.
- The runner with the sign on the back
of his t-shirt that read ‘I left my legs in Afghanistan’.
- Two women in orange t-shirts hugging
at the end – one t-shirt said ‘Mother’, the other ‘Daughter’.
- The guy who ran in a kilt.
- My daughter’s friend living in London,
who cheered in the crowd for three hours.
- Everyone who said ‘not long now luv’ –
bobbies, volunteers, members of the public.
- The wonderful St John's Ambulance people.
- The musicians, bands and dancers who
entertained the crowds – and the runners – along the way.
- Beautiful and inspirational Claire
Squires who collapsed 1 mile from the end – how very sad.
