Blog-ography

In addition to my passion for technology and interest in changing societal trends, my broader interests include fitness and developing an understanding of the role that fitness plays in society and the economy. OK - enough of the CV type stuff - here is my dot point work-in-progress blog-ography:

  • I met my soul mate at high school in 1975 – we married 3 years later – and are still married!
  • I have two beautiful daughters who were both born on Christmas Day 4 years apart!
  • I am a nanna – and I love being a strong nanna with tattoos and muscles!
  • I have beautiful sisters.
  • My mother used to say ‘there is no such thing as can’t...you can always try!’. I live by that.
  • No matter what I do, I try 100%.
  • I used to be a competitive swimmer as a teenager and loved the feeling of being fit and strong. I have re-discovered that feeling and it is awesome!
  • I love technology and gadgets – our world is changing in amazing ways.
  • I love reading about how the world is changing – about how the world is using technology; and I am very interested in social and demographic change.
  • When I feel tired or sore I think ‘...there is someone who is worse off than me, so get going!’
  • I am developing a real interested in philanthropy – there is a great philanthropic culture in the US and I think this is an area for opportunity in Australia.
  • A career is not linear, it is a patchwork. I think too many people expect a linear career experience. To be innovative and a better leader I think requires a diversity of experience.
  • I am concerned about how many people are overweight – I was one of them for a few years. What really concerns me is how many young people are overweight.
  • I love running with my husband – it is our time, we talk, he motivates and encourages me.
  • I love running in the rain – it is hard to get started – but it is quite liberating like ‘not even the rain can stop me’!
  • I admire people who are authentic and honest and trustworthy.
  • When we think about career, I don’t think enough emphasis is placed on health and physical fitness – it’s about the long term.
  • I really admire people who take risks or change what they’re doing.
  • I have hundreds of books – on all topics – technology, innovation in emerging markets, books on Microsoft, Google, Facebook, biographies, health and fitness.
  • I love networking and mentoring people – pass it forward – it is good to quietly know that perhaps I have made a small difference.
  • My husband is a sportswear and sports technology fashionista – and he has introduced me to all sorts of sportswear and sports technology.
  • I have lots of shoes – and I have to confess to about 15 pairs of sports shoes!
  • I collect biographies - who knows - someday I might get around to reading more than the first 5 pages!
  • I have beautiful girlfriends and fantastic women mentors - thank you!
